Fireweed is very beautiful when it’s in full (magenta) bloom – up in Alaska, the saying goes that once it’s gone to cotton, you’ll have snow in 6 weeks. But it doesn’t always hold true!

FYI, Anchorage just had their first snowfall yesterday. Here it’s only snowed in the mountains.

I am glad Susan answered your question as I had no idea.
I looked up fireweed online and the flowers are just as spectacular as the seeds. I hope you can go back take pictures when they bloom.
We had nice weather this weekend too and went to the park. For us nice is little wind and 70’s. I am glad you are exploring your new home and learning new things.

Susan – Fireweed! That’s it! We had never seen it before (we are learning a lot up here in the UP!). It was very stunning to see so much white in the midst of brown. It was a good day to be out and grab some shots of the crew.

The pic of your little gal and your doggy is great!

Could the mystery plant be Fireweed gone to seed? It grows a lot in Alaska – AND here in Switzerland.
