“Watched pots don’t boil” was one of the old sayings used by my Grandmother Banner. It certainly expresses a lot and is applicable to ongoing generations. Your addition of “and watched phones never ring” I had not heard or read before—but how true. Oh how many hours, days and weeks we sometimes spend waiting for phone calls or other communications that are important to our lives. I once altered my schedule for much of one summer waiting for a dealer to install air conditioning. The next Spring I got ahold of another dealer and got quick results.
My other grandmother, saintly Grandmother Clark, had an old proverb that was helpful to me during a deep prolonged trial of my younger manhood. The saying was, “It is a long road that has no turning.” Sooner or later either a “yes” or “no” or an obvious different direction in life will occur and the tension will break, even if the outcome is not that of our own preference. As much as I do not like some of these waiting periods I think they can have value in building our character.
The Lord bless you.
I hope the phone rings shortly…and with great news!
INDEFINITELY? DID YOU SAY, “INDEFINITELY?”
As Chaps would say, “OH NO”! Sigh
Ring phone ring!
Love you, Cat, Chaps and Emma
