Wondering Why…

Posted by: onemom on: July 31, 2008

  • … China was ever allowed to host the Olympics. They promised in 2001 that they would give foreign journalists complete freedom on the internet. Now they find that China is “protecting their national security” by blocking sites that have anything to do with support for Tibet or Taiwan. (Radio Australia). Human rights violations, some of the worst air pollution on earth, water so thick with algae you could practically walk on it … China was such an excellent choice.
  • … Exxon/Mobile just set the record for any US Company at any time for earnings in a single quarter (making a whopping $90,000 a minute!!), while investing barely 1% in new oil or alternative energy. $4/gallon gasoline justified? I don’t think so.
  • … by a single vote, the US Congress chose to go on recess tomorrow (until after Labor Day … do you get that much vacation time?) instead of choosing to fight for the American people and stay put until they actually get some useful work done that could build-up the country. 17 democrats joined the republicans in voting to stay at work … these are democrats that are either moderates or facing tough re-election campaigns this fall.
  • … McCain chooses to compare Obama to Britney Spears instead of talking substantive differences, or better yet talking policy and solutions.
  • … OneMom had a moment of insanity and decided to cut my own hair! I kept telling myself, “don’t do it, don’t do it”, but I did. Reality is it wasn’t THAT bad, but I did stop by a professional this afternoon and had it tidied up a little bit.

Been there, done that…mine didn’t turn out so well. lol.

What is up with McCain? Does he EVEN WANT to win this race?

It’s a lot easier to cut your hair when you just shave it all off… I’m growing it back now, so I can when the weather starts changing.

All the same things many of us are wondering… though I think John McCain attacks because he doesn’t have substance of his own.

Dominique … A friend told me yesterday that she would expect to hear that my 6-year old had cut her hair, not me! Regarding McCain, no, I don’t think he really wants to win. We need a coup at the convention in Minnesota.

Kevin – I really didn’t think I could pull off that look as well as you did.

You cut your own hair? At least you got it taken care of by a pro. =)

yes Ronnica, I had a momentary lapse of rational thinking. It really wasn’t that bad … I actually went out in public without a bag over my head. Mostly just needed it evened up a bit. It could have been much worse, and I will NEVER try it again!

I knew a girl in college that always cut her own hair and it always looked great. I was never brave enough to try it.

I think that China was given the Olympics because liberals want to be seen as giving the “underdog” a chance. It makes the Olympic committee look “inclusive”.

I don’t think you can completely blame Exxon/Mobile for not drilling for more oil or doing alternatives. Our government rolls out the barrels of red tape. What company wouldn’t run from that? And let’s not begrudge a successful company a profit. Profitable companies are what drive our economy.

My husband would probably say that with congress on vacation at least they can’t be doing any damage.

Frances – I think it makes the IOC look like a bunch of pansies when they made requirements for China and China did not follow through.

I’m all for companies being profitable, but I also think there is such a thing as selling a product/service at a fair price for the consumer that still allows the company to make a profit. I think $90,000 a minute is obscene.

Normally I would agree with your husband, but with them doing nothing, in this case they could cause more damage while they are off “resting”.

What did you think about the new Mccain web ad “The One”? I understand the motive was to mock the idea that Barack Obama would answer every problem but as a Christian, I found it somewhat offensive. It seems as though the Mccain campaign feels that matters of faith are so trivial that they are willing to connect them to a political attack ad. Just wanted to know your thoughts on the matter. Enjoy reading your blog! God bless!

Hi Ryan –

I found “the one” ad to be quite offensive. As McCain has little substance of his own, his campaign has to resort to this. I decided long, long ago that McCain has no room for evangelicals at his table. It feels like we have two democrats running for President this year.

So glad you stopped by and that you enjoy your visits here.

What type of haircut do you have?

McCain’s ad annoys me. Did you see the BarackBook that the Republican party put up? Ugh. I can’t believe the RNC is using its money for things like that. :-/

Hi Dube – long hair, bangs. Not quite as long now that I took scissors to it!

Nope, didn’t see a “BarackBook” … what/where is it?

I didn’t see the One ad until today. Ew! How is that supposed to make anyone want to vote for him?!

And I found BarackBook for you.

though I don’t really see how the GOP is supposed to benefit from it.
