I just finished reading the stories of the 10 finalists in the Purina Rescue Center contest. These are the stories about how these 10 animals came to be rescued. Have to tell you that I was crying before the end of the first story and cried right through the rest of them. I cried because none of God’s creatures should be treated this way, and cried because there are still good people out there that go the extra mile to help these beasts (“beast” is a loving term around our house). I haven’t voted yet, but I have narrowed my choices to “The Gift” and “Chance”. Click HERE to go to the story page. You only get one vote. There are also videos to watch of each animal. Get some tissues before you start!
My friend Wickle has a post along this same theme over at 1 True Believer. It’s a story about a turtle and about our changing society.

One of my former branch managers at the credit union where I used to work had adopted a badly-abused dog (actually, one of the poster dogs for the local SPCA — she was actually named by a radio station contest … ummm … the dog, not the manager). I can’t fathom the mentality of people who aren’t troubled treating animals this way.
Thanks for the reference, by the way … I’m honored to be ranked among that kind of company.
