100th Mother’s Day

Posted by: onemom on: May 10, 2008

Anna Jarvis was never a mother, but she created Mother’s Day to honor her own mother three years after her mom’s death. Her mom had talked about how nice it would be if there were a day to honor mothers and their love and sacrifice. Anna wanted the white carnation to be given to moms as a symbol of love and purity.

When I was a child, I remember picking dandelions and giving them to my mom. When I was a bit older, I would go to a local flower shop and buy one carnation (it wasn’t white, I didn’t know anything about Anna Jarvis back then) because I liked the smell and because I could afford one.

Go get a white carnation for your mom and tell her about Anna Jarvis. I’ll write some more later about my mom.

For now …
