Should Cindy McCain release her tax returns? May 8, 2008

Senator John McCain has been married to his wife and beer distributing heiress for some 28 years and have always filed separate tax returns. Mrs. McCain says she will never release her returns even if her husband is elected President.

Sen. McCain’s income was over $400,000. Senators Clinton and Obama file joint returns with their spouses and have all publicly released their returns. So, what do you think …. should Mrs. McCain release her returns? Should she be required to if her husband is elected President? Does any of this matter?

Absolutely not. No candidate should have to release their tax returns. Wha t real purpose does this have other than to satisfy the notion that if a politician or politicians spouse does not do so, they have something to hide. The prevailing voyeuristic attitude in this country undermines another foundation of this country.

cbcory,
I’d like to remind you that the Republican Party attacked the Kerry family through all 2004 because John’s wife, “Tear-ae-za” Heinz-Kerry, wouldn’t release hers.

I’m used to double talk from John McCain, but double standards in the Republican Party? Is there something about being in the minority that makes people put ethics aside? My once-proud Republican Party has abandoned what it once stood for. Both politically and ethically.

Sorry for holding the party accountable, but someone has to do it.

If what Kevin says is true (and I don’t doubt it is) then I agree with Kevin. If the Republican party hadn’t attacked Kerry about this very issue, then I would have no issue with Cindy not releasing her tax returns . I also agree with Kevin about the Republican party. I left it several years ago because it no longer resembles the party I joined.

There is this great book about both parties titled, Leave us Alone. It is well worth the read. It describes the Democratic Party as the “Takings” party and the Republican party as the “Leave us Alone” party. What is interesting to me, is the author’s supposition as to why Republican party is struggling with winning and his supposition that in the end, barring any major changes to our sovereignty, the Republican party will be the party of choice in the long run.

Anyway, I got off track.

I feel bad for Cindy because other than her husband’s stupidity, I don’t think she should have had to divulge her tax records.

Dominique - sounds like an interesting book, I will have to check it out.

Have you made your journey yet from the SW to the NE? Hope all is well.

Nope. She’s not running for president, he is. I’m not sure why she wants to be mum about this, but I don’t care to know what is on her return. I’m not really even that curious to see any of their returns. As long as they aren’t cheating.

Thanks for checking in on me. I woke up during the night to hear a bad storm but went instantly back to sleep. Apparently a couple tornadoes touched down, but none very close to me. It’s storms like that that make this Kansas girl fret about not having tornado sirens! It looks like we’ll be in for a couple more days of severe weather. =)

No, I have not made the journey. I will be leaving on May 30th and arriving in the White Mountains around the 7th of June.
