Huckabee blogger call – November 26, 2007

Posted by: onemom on: November 26, 2007

(from OneMom: This is a brief synopsis of today’s conference call with Mike Huckabee. My apologies to those who asked questions that I missed in this summary. Also, I was able to ask the first question today in this call, but I am doing a separate post about that … it will be up shortly).

9:30am

Mike Huckabee: Thanks to all of you for joining us. I have great appreciation for all of you … we now have over 400 bloggers for Huckabee. The media is astonished at what we are able to accomplish without money and high-paid consultants … the answer to how we are able to do it is all of you. You get the breaking news out and you strike back against lies and distortions. You are the wind beneath my wings.

(BD Bopper)Oh baby that’s what I like …. question about fundraising. website couldn’t handle the 20th. How is Team Huckabee preparing for bigger fundraising days as you have greater success on the campaign trail and in the caucuses and primaries?

MH – we are taking further technology steps in anticipation of growing success. we have updated 3 times, and are implementing more, including better firewalls. after the chuck norris ad, the site slowed some due to traffic, and also due to a couple of hackers.

There was a question about a parental rights amendment … I missed the name of the caller. (I believe the caller was from SC) (update: This call was from Frances with the Lived Out blog – thanks Frances for letting me know).

MH – rights of the child from UN … I am strongly opposed to that. It is unacceptable to put parental control under an international body, and to lose some of US sovereignty in general. (Governor Huckabee had not heard of the amendment in question by the blogger … neither had I).

musicians for huckabee … why isn’t your strong education background taking hold?

MH – one of my great frustrations, is that the debates haven’t had questions about education. the last one did, and there was no one better prepared on that stage to answer the question, and they didn’t give it to me.

Jeff, SE Michigan … now that Michigan is 2nd in nation primary, what is the strategy of the campaign in Michigan and how can we help?

MH – we are hoping you guys will carry alot of water for us. Even though Michigan moved up, the media perception of Michigan has not changed. If Mitt wins michigan, it doesn’t mean anything. If Mitt doesn’t win michigan, it will mean a lot (due to the expectation that Michigan will be Mitt’s because of his father). Because of the time frame of Iowa, NH, Mich, and SC, it’s a tight window. We will have to depend on volunteers in Michigan to get the word out.

Michael Van Der Galiën (this is a blogger from the Netherlands. While I don’t always agree with him, he does write a very insightful blog – often about American politics – and I enjoy reading his articles. I missed the question he asked the Governor, but I’m sure he will post it on his blog). The Van Der Galiën Gazette

Leslie (blessings…?) … can you say something encouraging to legal immigrants? (she works with ministry to jewish-russian immigrants).

MH – We ought to be angry not at immigrants, but at a government that has failed to fix the problem – failed to protect and seal our borders and to reflect that we are a nation of laws. We welcome immigrants, but the legal way.

Nathan Dunn (FL for Huckabee) … why isn’t the Club for Growth response under the Truth Squad? What kind of questions are you looking for this Wednesday at the CNN – You Tube Debate?

MH – thank you, you’re right. We do need to get more responses up under Truth Squad and to address in great detail the answers. I hope we get questions about health care and education at the You Tube Debate which we have not been able to discuss in previous debates. I would love if we could talk about domestic issues.

Again, thank you to everyone. It is a pleasure to talk to you. You are our heros, and we couldn’t do this without you.

God Bless and thanks. Have a great day.

(Is it just me, or does anyone else have the Bette Midler song “Wind Beneath My Wings” running through their head?)

Thanks for putting this up. It will help me out a lot. I did the best I could live but my fingers and brain could not move fast enough to keep up.

Thanks for informing us about this. I love that he is so willing to meet with bloggers who are “the people.”

Do you think it was strategy to post a very popular YouTube campaign ad the week before the YouTube debate? Do you think that will increase the number of questions he will receive?

I was the caller about the parental rights. Just FYI.

[...] but that wasn’t easy. For Kerry’s summary of the blogger’s conference call click here. She later wrote a follow-up post on Huckabee and home-schooling. Well worth the time to read [...]

Thanks, Kerry. I missed the call (again), but I’m glad to have the information.

By the way, I much prefer Gary Morris for “Wind Beneath My Wings” … which predates Midler’s (1984 vs. 1988).

Hi Kerry,

Just a quick note to let you know 2 things:

1. Great work the the Home Schooling issue!

2. Mike and Arts asked the Education Question today. URL is http://mikeandarts.typepad.com/

Keep up the great work!
