Let me start off by letting everyone know that I – just me, totally my opinion only – think that Ann Coulter is the worse thing to happen to the Republican Party since Watergate. She is rude, boorish, and would rather listen to the sound of her own voice than be bothered with such useless things as facts and the opinions of other people. She is not interested in discussion of any kind … she is only interested in destroying people and making money.
OK, by now, most of you probably realize that Ann has decided to have Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee for her lunch today. I do not have time to give this the response that is needed, but let me throw this out as an answer to her column (I can only speak as a supporter of Mike Huckabee. Mr. Thompson will need to find help elsewhere):
AC: Conservatives unhappy with our Republican presidential candidates seem to be drifting aimlessly toward Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee in the misguided belief that these candidates are more conservative than Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney.
OneMom: First, I don’t consider Rudy a conservative except perhaps, fiscally. Mitt, it depends what day it is. Mike Huckabee NOT conservative …. ha! There’s a laugh. Perhaps she doesn’t recognize him as a conservative because he’s not mad at anybody about it (like she is … constantly). Mike Huckabee is not perfect – who is? – but I know without any doubt where he stands on the things that are most important to me, a mom, a Christian, a citizen of the United States.
AC: On illegal immigration, Huckabee makes George Bush sound like Tom Tancredo. He has compared illegal aliens to slaves brought here in chains from Africa, saying, “I think frankly the Lord is giving us a second chance to do better than we did before.”
OneMom: I like what Gov. Huckabee says about having to stop the illegal immigration before we can begin to attend to the millions of illegals already here. “Before you fix the damage in your house caused by a leaking roof, you stop the leak”.
- Gov. Huckabee opposed the amnesty bill that was defeated by the Senate in June.
- He supports the $3 billion that Congress recently appropriated for border security. These funds will be used to train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone airplanes, build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and erect 105 radar and camera towers. They will be used to end “catch and release” by providing money to “catch and detain” those caught entering illegally and to crack down on those who enter legally, but overstay their visas.

AC: Like all the (other) Democratic candidates for president, he supports a federal law to ban smoking.
OneMom: Check your information Ann. There was a statement made at the Lance Armstrong forums in Iowa that was miscontrued by some bloggers that spread this rumor like wild-fire. On one of our Blogger calls with Governor Huckabee, I asked him about this … here is our conversation from September 6, 2007:
OneMom: There’s some concern about your statements regarding tobacco regulation from the Lance Armstrong forum. As a Public Health Professional, I fully support any and all tobacco regulation, but others felt your comments meant you would be building big government and forcing behavior on individuals. Could you clarify your views on tobacco regulation.
MH: Certainly, I don’t believe that we as a govt have a right to tell people what to do or not do in these areas of personal choice. The issue is one of workplace safety … the same reason that the govt regulates the exposure of radon and other toxic gases in the work place. In AR I signed a bill that banned smoking in certain public areas and businesses, but not in bars/restaurants, because those were places consumers could more easily choose to go to or not. So, in the work place, if we regulate smoking, it is an issue of worker safety. Even though I think it’s an unhealthy habit and is terribly expensive to the country, people have a right to smoke, but when that smoke reaches my nose, that right ends. The responsibility initially lies with the states of course. The only way this would be a federal issue is for it taking on that roll as part of OSHA as it regulates other work place safety issues regarding exposure to dangerous elements.
AC: Huckabee also joined with impeached president Bill Clinton in a campaign against childhood obesity. What, O.J. wasn’t available?
OneMom: This is so insane, that it barely deserves a response. I’m not a big fan of Bill Clinton or his wife, but he wasn’t removed from office, they fought to re-build their marriage and as a former Governor of Arkansas that battled a weight problem (remember his heart surgery), how nice that he and Gov. Huckabee could put aside political differences and work together to battle one of the biggest problems facing our children and our society …. OBESITY. It’s a human issue, not a political one. Both of these former Governors from Arkansas battled their weight and changed their lifestyles and they worked together. How shocking! Bravo to both of them. You see Ann, Mike Huckabee is firmly grounded on a true conservative foundation, but he also knows that in order to build the United States up, he’s going to have to work with everyone to get that done, and gee Ann, he actually has proven he can do that while Governor of Arkansas … check real facts Ann, not Wikipedia.
Oh, one more thing Ann … and while I never thought I would be defending Bill Clinton for anything, I feel a need to stand up to you (a playground bully on too much Red Bull) … Bill Clinton never hurt a child. Ms. Lewinsky was not a child, for you to call him a pedophile should be considered slander and perhaps he should sue you.
OK, that’s what I have to say about all this. I do hope I never have to utter Ann Coulter’s name on this blog or anywhere else ever again. She’s a bully and all she wants is power, money and attention.
Let’s be careful out there everybody …
Kerry
re-print from my comment at the Huckabee Hound:
Ann has always been “just” a political satirist. I don’t know where along the way we started weighing their opinions outside of that context.

and out of respect for you Kerry,
That’s all I got to say about that.
I completely agree with your post. Ann is a bully and a bad comedian. I lost the few ounces of respect I might of had for her. Thanks for a good one.
Awesome Kerry. Mountaintop awsome!!!
As for the interview being damaging to Governor Huckabee, I am quite sure she has brought the name Huckabee to the top of the radar screen. Odds are taht there is going to be much more of this spotlight shining on the Huckster.
As to Ann Colter, quit being nasty. Yes, you are a pitbull, but there is a boundry even for such.
She fears Mike Huckabee more than any Democrat out there does. Call me crazy, but she does not want a true conservative who can cross party lines to be president. She would lose her fat pay if Mike Huckabee were to be president. She can make more money if Hillary Clinton is in the White House. She can continue to get payed for playing the “I hate Democrats”/”I hate Republicans” games that go on on both sides.

I was wary of Coulter’s tactics when she was using them against our political foes (Dems), but now that she is eating our own, my eyes are opened to how irresponsible she really is. Tactics:
1. Guilt by association
2. Statements out of context
3. Taking degrees to extremes
4. Baseless implications i.e. “When did you stop beating your wife?”
I wonder: Will she write similar hit pieces on
1. Giuliani being pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage, anti-gun, illegal-immigration-is-not-a-crime?
2. John McCain and his McCain Feingold and shamnesty bills?
3. Romney’s flip-flopping?
This woman is really bad for conservatism. She perpetuates the perception that we’re a bunch of cold-blooded SOBs.

For anyone worried that Huckabee is “soft” on immigration, go check his site. I struggled greatly a couple of months ago with the problem of how to treat illegals, then I wrote Gov. Huckabee a letter with my conclusions. I have just now pulled this letter out of Private and Published it on my blog for this occasion. I would really like to know what you, my fellow Huckabee bloggers and supporters, think. It’s under Categories/Illegal Immigration on my blog:
