A big hat-tip to one of my readers – WiseGuy – for bringing this information to my attention.
According to the American Prospect – in an interview published today (September 26, 2007), Frank Page who is the Pastor of a large church in Taylors, SC and President of the Southern Baptist Convention, had the following things to say regarding the upcoming election in general and Mike Huckabee, specifically:
…Huckabee’s candidacy is gaining steam, and that there “are a growing number of people who are convinced that he is a viable candidate.” Huckabee, Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and John McCain have all met with Page, recognizing his influence as the leader of the country’s largest Protestant denomination and the single biggest component of the conservative evangelical right. Page, who explained to me his comments reflected the views of conservative evangelicals generally and not just Southern Baptists, said that all the candidates, except Huckabee, “struggle with understanding where we [evangelicals] come from…”
On Monday Huckabee held a “Vertical Day” on his campaign Web site, a 24-hour event designed to attract more online support for his candidacy. One important guest-blogger for the candidate, who stopped short of an outright endorsement, was Newt Gingrich.
It is so good to finally hear from Frank Page and to see that the entire Southern Baptist Convention is not on board with Richard Land and his very vocal political opinions which seem to be more based on money, power and fame than on values and convictions.
This is good …

This does sound good, but take a look at the news article I linked to on my “Say no to Bauer” article on my blog. It is very disturbing.
